Michael S. Battey
Managing Director

Michael S. BatteyMichael Battey is a senior relationship manager and head of the Atlantic Trust San Francisco office. In this role, he is responsible for managing a team of ten investment, marketing and administrative professionals. During his 29 years of investment management and analytical experience, Michael has overseen a broad range of client portfolios including pension and profit sharing plans, endowment funds, charitable and religious organizations, individual, trust and other taxable investment portfolios. Previously, Michael opened and was head of the San Francisco office for DLJ Asset Management Group and spent over nine years in various senior leadership positions at Bessemer Trust, culminating in opening and running Bessemer’s San Francisco office and overseeing its Los Angeles office. Prior to that, Michael was an executive recruiter with Russell Reynolds Associates focusing on asset management and private equity searches and a credit analyst and lending officer at Bankers Trust Company and the Chemical Bank focusing on the energy, financial institution and utility sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College and is also a graduate of the ABA National Trust School at Northwestern University. Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Committee and Investment Committee Chairman at the St. Francis Foundation in San Francisco, on the board of directors of the Ross School Endowment and an active alumni fundraiser for Deerfield Academy.

Gail Baty
Vice President

Gail BatyGail's interest in finance began when she was 18 years old and living in Brooklyn, New York. By the time she moved to California three years later, she had a solid accounting background, thanks to her studies at New York City Community College. This served her well when she joined Kingsley Jennison McNulty and Morse in 1983. Twenty-five years later, than company is now part of Atlantic Trust, and Gail is a vice president and administrative office manager in the San Francisco office. Gail's primary focus is on client service, and she ensures a seamless interface between the company and its clients. "My work is about the client," Gail reports. "It always has been, no matter how large or small the company was." Gail earned Certificates in Portfolio Management, Fixed Income Securities and Fundamentals of the Securities Industry from the New York Institute of Finance. When she is not working, Gail enjoys biking in the Oakland Hills, cooking and community involvement.

Jack Caldwell, CFP®
Managing Director

Jack Caldwell, CFPJack Caldwell joined Atlantic Trust in 2004 as a relationship manger and director of business development. He has over 16 years of experience working in the wealth management industry. Prior to joining the firm, Jack was at Mellon Private Wealth Management, where he was responsible for client relationship management and new business development, focusing on affluent individuals, families and foundations. Prior to Mellon, Jack spent nine years with Scudder Investments. At Scudder, Jack was responsible for new business of defined contribution plans to mid-size companies on the West Coast. Previously, he was a client relationship manager in Scudder’s Boston office for mid-size clients, where he was responsible for investment reviews, client satisfaction and planning. Prior to joining Scudder, Jack was a financial planner with American Express Financial Advisors. He earned a Bachelor of Science in management from University of Southern New Hampshire (formally New Hampshire College) and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Golden Gate University. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and a board member of the San Francisco Estate Planning Council.

Nicole M. DeKelaita
Senior Associate

Nicole M. DeKelaitaNicole recently graduated from the University of California, Davis and joined Atlantic Trust in 2008 as an associate analyst. In this role, Nicole works closely with portfolio managers to conduct client reviews and coordinate the production of client meeting books and presentation materials. She is committed to providing exceptional client service and helping grow Atlantic Trust's business. Prior to joining our firm, she served as an asset management intern with UBS and a mortgage banking intern with Parkside Lending LLC.

Vicken Ekmekjian, CFA
Managing Director

Vicken Ekmekjian, CFAVicken Ekmekjian joined Atlantic Trust in 2005 as a Portfolio Manager. He is responsible for providing wealth counseling services to a broad base of high net worth private clients, foundations and endowments through the implementation of tailored wealth management and investment solutions. Vicken started his career at JP Morgan Private Bank as an Investment Officer responsible for managing portfolios for high net worth clients, including asset allocation and diversification through disciplined tax-sensitive strategies. He earned a BS in Business Administration with honors from the University of San Francisco and a Masters of Business Administration from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management. Vicken also served as a graduate school intern at Morgan Stanley where he was responsible for a wide range of wealth management assignments. Vicken is currently a director of the KZV Armenian School Endowment Fund and also a member of its Finance Committee. Additionally, Vicken is a member of the CFA Institute (formerly AIMR), a member of the San Francisco Security Analyst Society, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation.

Sylvia Hansen

Sylvia HansenSylvia is a portfolio administrator in the San Francisco office. Prior to joining Atlantic Trust in 1983, she worked in accounting and invoicing at Marubeni American Corporation. She earned a degree in design from Pacific Institute of San Francisco.

Jennifer Man, CFA
Managing Director

Jennifer Man, CFAJennifer Man is a portfolio manager with Atlantic Trust, where she is responsible for providing investment counseling services to a broad base of high-net-worth private clients through the implementation of tailored investment solutions. She also serves as an Invesco director. Prior to joining Atlantic Trust, Jennifer spent several years in the investment management arena with leading Canadian Investment firms, Manulife Financial, and Talvest Fund Management, a subsidiary of TAL Global Asset Management. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta, Canada. Additionally, Jennifer is a member of the CFA Institute, a member of the San Francisco Security Analyst Society, and holds the CFA designation.

Tracie Nguyen
Senior Associate

Tracie NguyenTracie is an executive assistant in the San Francisco office with eight years of industry experience. In this role she works closely with the relationship managers to provide client service, reporting and ongoing account administration. She also supports the new business development team by creating marketing presentations and managing business development schedules and reporting. Tracie earned a Bachelor of Science in finance and international business from San Francisco State University. She is currently in the process of earning a Master of Business Administration in finance from Golden Gate University and of becoming a CFP® professional.

Chris D. Roman, CIC
Senior Vice President

Chris D. Roman, CICChris Roman is a senior vice president and portfolio manager with 41 years of investment management experience in equities and fixed income securities. Chris joined Atlantic Trust in 1996 from Eaton Vance Management, where he served as a vice president and senior portfolio manager. In this role, he was responsible for managing portfolios for individuals and institutions. He was also actively involved in the firms investment policy and asset allocation process. Previously, Chris served as a fund manager with Wells Fargo Bank, where he managed the bank's commingled equity investment funds and key corporate pension accounts. Chris is currently a member of the CFA Institute and the Investment Adviser Association. He holds the Chartered Investment Counselor designation. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the finance committee of St. Agnes Parish in San Francisco. Chris earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California (Berkeley) and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Santa Clara.
