Global Market Report
Atlantic Trust issues a monthly publication which provides a summary of major events and trends in the world markets. It includes a global overview as well as a perspective on emerging markets and fixed income.
2010 Issues
- June - Positive news, such as strong manufacturing numbers from China, India and the US, was overshadowed by fears over sovereign indebtedness, the capital adequacy of European banks and warnings that global growth may slow over coming months.
- May - Heightened volatility and an aversion to risk characterized equity markets this month, and further worries about Eurozone sovereign debt led to another decline of the Euro. Results in the U.S. and Asia Pacific were mixed as concerns over European debt diminished investor confidence.
- April - Concerns over sovereign Greek debt continue to dampen any other positive news coming from Europe but developments in China and Asia Pacific are considerably more upbeat. Increased consumer spending in the U.S. helped the economy grow 3.2% over 1Q10.
- March - Positive economic developments and increased consumer confidence helped to boost equity markets across the globe last month. U.S. stocks post their best quarter since 1998 but news from Europe remains bleak.
- February - U.S. consumer confidence stumbled this month and Greece’s debt woes plague both Europe and the Euro. Meanwhile, 4Q09 data from Asia and emerging markets is largely positive.
- January - Equity markets and corporate bonds took positive momentum into the new year, but the Euro posted it biggest monthly drop versus the Yen and U.S. Dollar. Is the global recession loosening its grip? The answer may be yes, but the results are mixed.
