Homer S. Bhullar
Senior Associate
Homer Bhullar is a financial analyst in the Austin office with a broad range of responsibilities, including the daily monitoring of client portfolios and the quarterly preparation of customized, consolidated client performance reports. Most recently, Homer worked in the proprietary trading group of Madison Trading in New York, where he implemented trading strategies while also researching global macroeconomic trends affecting the value of U.S. investment assets. Homer earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. He is currently a Level III candidate to receive his CFA® designation.

Suzy V. Conley
Senior Vice President
Suzy Conley is a relationship manager in the Austin office, where she works directly with client families and their related interests to achieve their wealth management objectives. Her responsibilities include helping clients integrate their asset allocation and investment strategies with their tax, estate, and charitable giving strategies. Suzy has particular expertise in risk management and in advising entrepreneurs on their concentrated equity holdings. Prior to joining Atlantic Trust, Suzy served as assistant director of principal gifts for Stanford University’s Office of Development. From 1998 to 2003, she was an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management in San Francisco. Suzy began her career at Goldman Sachs & Co., where she worked as a financial analyst in the Investment Banking Division in New York and Los Angeles. Suzy earned a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics cum laude from Colgate University.

LaVern Z. Pena
Senior Associate
LaVern Pena is a client service manager responsible for the opening and ongoing daily account administration for the Austin office. LaVern joined Atlantic Trust in 2004, bringing many years of experience administering personal trusts and investment management accounts. Prior to joining Atlantic Trust, she was an assistant vice president at Wells Fargo Private Client Services and held positions as a trust officer and new accounts trust team manager. She began her career in financial management in 1996, when she joined the team at Frost Financial Management. LaVern earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and management cum laude from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

S. Mark Powell
Managing Director
Mark Powell heads our Austin office and has been instrumental in establishing our presence in Texas since he joined the firm in 2002. In addition to his regional development responsibilities, Mark works to deliver to clients the pooled expertise of our dedicated interdisciplinary team of advisors. He has more than 20 years of experience in economic analysis and the securities markets, with specific expertise in fixed income portfolio management. Mark is an Invesco senior director and a member of the Invesco Leadership Group. Before joining Atlantic Trust, Mark was most recently a managing director with Morgan Keegan & Company. In this role, he led Morgan’s asset management efforts in Texas, including the acquisition of Hester Capital Management in 1997. Earlier in his career, Mark developed investment policy and strategy for clients of Capitol Securities, a regional institutional fixed income brokerage firm headquartered in Austin. As a partner at Capitol, he was instrumental in leading the firm’s expansion into new products, services, and markets, which ultimately led to its acquisition by Morgan Keegan in 1993. Mark is actively involved with numerous charitable organizations including Children’s Medical Center (Leadership Committee); YMCA of Austin (past treasurer); the Medical Institute (Development Council); MM Foundation (trustee); and Young Life (chairman, Greater Austin Development Board). He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Baylor University in 1981.
